I’m a nutter for peanut butter I eat it everyday I smear it on a piece of toast And head out on my way I’ll slice up an apple And add a scoop of PB It makes the perfect snack For when I am hungry But today I learned the truth And it doesn’t go down easy What I learned about peanuts Makes me feel quite queasy It’s nuts That peanuts are not nuts The truth Is that peanuts are legumes They grow underground in pods Isn’t that quite odd? It’s nuts that peanuts are not nuts All my life I believed That things were as they seems But the peanut lied and now my heart is broken I just don’t know It’s all gone up in smoke Someone wake me from this dream Take back the lies and the deceit It’s nuts That peanuts are not nuts The truth Is that peanuts are legumes They grow underground in pods Isn’t that quite odd? It’s nuts that peanuts are not nuts

When you fail and life implodes Get back up, wipe off your clothes Failure makes you better and stronger, I say We should all be failing at least once a day Dare to be bad Better be terrible It too will pass Hell, it was bearable To be a failure To be a failure So what if you suck? It will get better If you get stuck It’s not forever To be a failure To be a failure If you strike out and lose the game Dishonor your family, disgrace your name That is the beginning of an epic tale You will inspire with how you prevailed Dare to be bad Really be stinky Embarrass yourself Sometimes it’s shitty To be a failure To be a failure It will improve It won’t really matter When you make it through Look back with laughter At all the failure The failure Fail fast, fail often Cause failure is always an option Our failures make us human You’re perfect, you don’t have to prove it Dare to be bad Fuck up completely Get booed off the stage Sure it’s not pretty To be a failure To be a failure You will get strong No one can hurt you When you laugh along It is a virtue To be a failure To be a failure

You + Me 04:31
You and me are a bagel with cream cheese Topped with lox from the deli Wrapped in parchment, bagged in paper That’s torn open and munched before leaving You and me can be anything We want to be You and me are clean silverware Right when the wash is finished Impossible to hold without scalding fingers But put away anyway as a source of pride You and me can be anything We want to be You and me are a weed packed pipe That’s been sitting half-smoked for weeks There’s thrill of the high but we both come home tired So it sits there begging for a puff You and me can be anything We want to be You are me are lovers You and me are friends You and me are nobody In the end You and me are a winter night Where the day has oozed through a crack Suddenly the streets looked like nothing And everyone seemed to disappear You and me can be anything We want to be You and me can be anything We want to be

You’re a cherry tomato In a mixed melody A thumb-sized fruit Of red, yellow, or green You’re not a grape Just look at your shape You’re a cherry tomato Make no mistake Though you are small You’re certainly sweet With a splash of tart Between my teeth You’re high in fiber And vitamin C You’re dear to my heart, My lungs, and kidneys You’re a cherry tomato In a mixed melody A thumb-sized fruit Of red, yellow, or green You’re not a grape Just look at your shape You’re a cherry tomato Make no mistake I’ll pair you with corn, Watermelon, or cheese Eggplant, okra, Or spicy chilies Cook you with prawns, scallops or zucchini Heck. I’ll eat a whole bunch And call it a feast In the very first recipe of salsa Found in Aztec ruins Cherry tomatoes topped the list Of ingredients they were using You’re a cherry tomato In a mixed melody A thumb-sized fruit Of red, yellow, or green You’re not a grape Just look at your shape You’re a cherry tomato Make no mistake

Am I eating my feelings If I’m filled with joy? You say that I’m lonely And inside me is a void There’s more time to snack When you’re unemployed Nom nom yum yum Something sweet between my gums Chew chew burp burp One more small bite couldn’t hurt Gurgle gurgle fart fart Something’s knocking on my arse Plop plop groan groan The king has claimed his rightful throne If gluttony is a sin Why is food so delicious? I’m the real victim To clean up all these dishes But first I need seconds And then I’ll be finished I’d rather gobble an entire turkey Than risk my heart broken It’s just like having oral sex Except my waist size is growing Food doesn’t talk back When it’s going down Food loves me more and more As I pack on the pounds Nom nom yum yum Something sweet between my gums Chew chew burp burp One more small bite couldn’t hurt

Carpe diem, seize the day It's the only one you've got Cause tomorrow could bring a heart attack Or a fatal blood clot Rejoice and be merry What a life you got to lead With Iphones, and Obama And heated toilet seats Life will kill you Kill you Dead Hallelujah, what a joy To have this human life To laugh, and learn, and love it all Before it all goes white Or black, who knows? It could be seafoam green Or we could all be batteries In an evil AI machine Life will kill you Kill you Dead

I'm a sentimental boy Would you say I'm lighter than a feather? I'm a sentimental boy Is my heart lighter than a feather? I'm just a little bit unbalanced I'm foaming at the mouth Is my conscience cleaner than bleach now?I'm foaming at the mouth Is my conscience cleaner than bleach now? I'm just a little bit unbalanced

Standing at the door Trailed by the storm Black skies behind me I swear they'll never find me If you let me inside Blood of my blood Save me from the flood Can we start over? Just like the photos Pared back, we'll regrow Will you remember me The way we used to be? Where did we go wrong?

about

For this year's February Album Writing Month challenge (fawm.org) I wrote around 40 songs. Of course, writing so many songs in such a short amount of time the results were... rough?

I had recently moved into a new place - a wonderful old house in Massachusetts that need a lot of cleaning before I felt totally settled. Not to mention I dumped all my musical equipment into a spare bedroom. These songs capture me in a particularly chaotic moment though also one of new possibilities.

I was smoking a lot of weed during this month too. That probably explains to crazy-sounding tunes. And the 3 or 4 of them that are about food. Weed gives me insane munchies.

I allowed myself to play characters and to break apart the concept of writing a verse-chorus pop song. So some of these songs are short snippets or noise.

At the end of the month, I needed a break from these songs. I would listen to the recordings and have thoughts like, "Holy shit, these are horrible" and "These songs can never see the light of day."

That being said the rest of the recordings/rougher takes can be found here audiomack.com/nate-gerry.

Well here we are in May 2022. I imported the more "song-y" sounding tunes into Logic and started overdubbing. And... They sounded pretty good! The Jacques Cousteau one came together effortlessly and that inspired me to tackle a couple others.

My creative voices continues to evolve. I enjoys this humor trickster that shows up. I appreciate you following me on my creative journey <3
